Local Area
A short drive northwards brings you to the attractive village of Fort Augustus on the banks of Loch Ness, alive with activity as boats queue to get through the famous flight of locks on the Caledonian Canal. Younger guests may like to visit the Rare Breeds Park for a close up view of Highland cattle, red deer and other animals. Loch Ness
Just a few miles away is the stunning Loch Ness, many companies provide cruises on the Loch, you might even catch a glimpse of Nessie. You could also visit the Loch Ness Exhibition in Drumnadrochit or Urquhart castle.
Nevis Gondola
Tired of walking? Get up a mountain the easy way. The Gondola carry visitors up to 2150ft on Aonach Mor, beside Ben Nevis. It's great fun and is suitable for all age groups.
Nevis distillery
Distillery tours are freely available throughout the year at an excellent visitor centre where you can sample and purchase the local whisky.
Surrounding Area
Drive or take a steam train from Fort William to Mallaig, following the Road to the Isles, one of the most beautiful journeys in the Highlands - you could take in Glenfinnan and the beautiful beaches of Arisaig on the way! To the west, through magnificent Glen Shiel, take a trip to Skye via the Kyle of Lochalsh, passing the lonely Eilean Donan castle on the way.
